Pretty solid; Writing was solid, and pretty engaging. You got a good sense of the life of the town pretty fast. Heroine is engaging and pretty well drawn. Background char well drawn and note perfect. The hero is also pretty good-- smart, funny, engaging. However, he's also AGGRAVATINGLY alpha male sometimes-- despite wanting to not interfere in Abby's career, and to only help her, he expresses his wants and desires in a way that makes me grind my teeth. It's a bit of whiplash, going from his POV where you know what he wants to her POV where you hear what he says.
What constantly kept throwing me out of the book, however, was that he's a former NFL player. A former NFL *STAR*, the book is quick to remind us. Who wears his Super Bowl ring around. You know, just around. Have you ever seen a Super Bowl ring?? No way in hell. Also, I know *just enough* about NFL player development for his back story to not ring true for a modern player.
NO ONE WEARS THEIR SUPER BOWL RING TO GO FIX SOMEONE'S PIPES.
